Proven leadership, extensive experience, unmatched dedication. Over 23 years of law enforcement experience, 21 serving the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.

As a student at Sauk Prairie Middle School, Matt Burch had the chance to job shadow at the Sauk County Jail during Career Day - an experience that sparked his determination to serve with the Sauk County Sheriff's Office. He began his career as a jail deputy and, over the past 21+ years, has worked in or supervised every division within the department.
Matt is the only candidate with truly comprehensive experience across the Sheriff's Office, including direct involvement with the budget, giving him the insight needed for responsible fiscal management. He has held a wide range of positions, including Jail Deputy, Patrol Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and now Captain of Field Services. In addition to these roles, he has served on, led, or supervised many of the county's specialized teams, including the Sauk County Emergency Response Team, the Drug Task Force, and the K9 program – where he worked two dogs and played a key role in building and strengthening the Sheriff's Office's current K9 program.
As Captain, he provides oversight for patrol, detectives, courthouse security, and dispatch. He coordinates with local agencies and community partners on logistics for major countywide events. He has also led major projects such as implementing squad cameras, body worn cameras, and Flock cameras, as well as expanding the K9 program from one dog to four.
Matt is grounded in proven leadership, strengthened by extensive experience, and driven by an unmatched dedication to serving Sauk County.
